The internationalization of the Spanish protectorate in Morocco: nationalistic claims and Spanish aspirations in the frame of the postwar period

El presente artículo trata de poner de manifiesto la importancia de la “política árabe” del franquismo dentro de la política exterior desplegada por el régimen durante los primeros años de aislacionismo internacional al que fue sometido. En dicha política, el Protectorado de España en Marruecos jugó un papel de gran importancia, no sólo para la situación de España en la esfera internacional, sino para las propias aspiraciones nacionalistas del pueblo marroquí. Se trata de un momento clave en la historia de ambos países cuya evolución desencadenó en la independencia del reino alauí, que este año celebra su cincuenta aniversario.The present article attempts to express the importance of the “Arabic politics” within Franco’s regime regarding the Foreign policy developed by the Government during the first years of international isolationism. In this policy, the Spanish Protectorate in Morocco played an important role, not only for Spain’s situation in the international sphere, but for Morocco’s own nationalistic aspirations of a Nation. It is a question of a key moment in the history of both countries whose evolution concluded with the independence of the Alaui kingdom, which commemorates this year, its 50th anniversary.peerReviewe
