Breeding and population dynamics of the Grey Heron (Areda cinerea LINNAEUS, 1758) inJastrebarsko colony from 1992. until 2013.

Siva čaplja (Ardea cinerea L. 1758) pripada porodici čaplji (Ardeidae) čije su pripadajuće vrste karakterističnovezane uz vlažna i močvarna staništa. U Crvenom popisu ugroženih vrsta IUCN-a siva čaplja je klasificirana kaonajmanje zabrinjavajuća (LC). Isti status ima i na Crvenom popisu ptica Hrvatske i zaštićena je Zakonom ozaštiti prirode. Veličina gnijezdeće populacije sivih čaplji u Hrvatskoj je u blagom porastu od 70-tih godinaprošlog stoljeća, stoga danas ona broji više od 3000 parova. Cilj ovog rada je istraživanje gnijezdeće populacijesive čaplje u koloniji Jastrebarsko. Terensko istraživanje je provedeno u razdoblju od siječnja do svibnja 2013.godine. Tijekom 2013. godine u koloniji Jastrebarsko gnijezdilo je 119 parova sivih čaplji. U razdoblju od 1992.-2013. godine u koloniji Jastrebarsko prosječno je gnijezdilo 126 parova (min. 81 par, max. 182 para). Najvećubrojnost kolonija je imala 2001. godine kada su zabilježena 182 gnijezdeća para. Trend gnijezdeće populacije jepozitivan sve do 2001. godine nakon čega dolazi do pada populacije. Vrijednost uspjeha gniježđenja (brojmladih po uspješnom gnijezdu) tijekom 2013. godine iznosila je 1,93 mladih/uspješnom paru i ukazuje da se radio prosječno dobroj gnijezdećoj sezoni. Usporedbom rezultata s predhodnim cenzusima (1992.2012.) utvrđen jepad gnijezdeće populacije u periodu od 2008. do danas i zaključeno je da je pad uzrokovan dvjema ljudskimaktivnostima: šumarstvom i ribarstvom.Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea L. 1758) belongs to heron family (Ardeidae) which is characterised by populating different wet and wetland habitats. In the IUCN Red List of Treathened Species status of grey heron is classified as least concerning (LC). It has the same status in the Red Book of Threatened Birds of Croatia and it is protected by the Nature Protection Act. Size of grey herons breeding population in Croatia is mostly increasing from 1970. and today there are more than 3000 pairs recorded. The aim of this study is to research the breeding population of grey heron in Jastrebarsko colony. Field work has been conducted in the period from January tillMay 2013. During 2013. in Jastrebarsko colony there have been 119 pairs of grey heron. In the period from1992. till 2013. in the Jastrebarsko colony there was an average of 126 breeding pairs (min. 81 pairs, max. 182 pairs). The colony was most populated in 2001., 182 breeding pairs were recorded. Trend of the breeding population is positive until 2001. after which a decrease of the populations occurs. Value of nesting success(number of young birds per nest) during 2013. was 1,93 young birds/successfull pair and it shows that the breeding season was average good. By comparing the results with past censuses (1992.-2012.) a decrease of the breeding population is determined for the period from 2008. till today, and it is concluded that the decrease is a result of two human activities: forestry and fishery
