The article analyses J. Laužikas’ pedagogical ideas of the thirties of the 20th century about the importance of the teachers’ personality in the today’s context of changing educational system. Thus, the article attempts to analyse and disclose the modernity and relevance of thoughts and ideas in this aspect of the most prominent Lithuanian pedagogue in solving the most critical problem of the today’s educational system — reform of the teachers training system. Present-day teachers are educated to deliver knowledge of programme content rather than spiritually develop a personality discussed by J. Laužikas.
