The dynamic field of perinatology entails ever-increasing search for molecular mechanisms of neonatal diseases, especially in the domain of fetal growth and neurodevelopmental outcome. There is an urgent need for new molecular biomarkers, to early identify newborn at high risk for developing diseases and to provide new treatment targets.
