In der Pädagogik dominiert ein Substanzdenken, das nach dem Eigentlichen und Wesentlichen einer Sache fragt. Dem wird ein relationales Denken entgegengesetzt, das in seiner anthropologischen Bedeutung erläutert wird. Der Mensch erscheint als ein Verhältniswesen, das in drei qualitativ verschiedenen Beziehungen steht: in Beziehung zu den Dingen, zu anderen und zu sich selbst. Ausgehend von zwei Beispielen wird die Bedeutung der Selbstbeziehung für die Analyse von Erziehung und Unterricht herausgearbeitet.
