Avalia??o de diferentes pr?-tratamentos sobre caule de milho visando sua aplica??o na produ??o de biog?s

The need for renewable energy sources is evident today since oil-derived fuels are depleting sources. Lignocellulosic biomass is a promising energy source because it has a high content of cellulose, which can be converted to biogas. Currently, biogas production is associated with the treatment of one of the greatest swine problems in Brazil, the management of the high effluent load generated by the confined animal production systems. In this work, different types of pre-treatments of a lignocellulosic raw material, the corn stalk (Zea mays), were investigated using experimental design methodology, as well as the potential of biogas production through co-digestion with swine waste. Pretreatment with H2SO4 showed a significant removal of the hemicellulose fraction using low acid concentrations (0.75%). However, because it also increased the lignin fraction in the biomass, this technique is not suitable for the subsequent production of biogas, since it ends up inhibiting the co-digestion process. On the other hand, pre-treatment with alkaline H2O2 (pH 11.5) achieved an increase in the cellulose fraction of 73.4% and a reduction of 71.6% in lignin content using 12% (v.v-1) of H2O2, 58 ?C of orbital agitator temperature, 130.0 rpm stirring and 3.0% of solids content (3 g of dry mass at 100 mL of solution) for 58.0 min. This pretreatment is recommended for biogas production as it provided a 22% increase in the final volume of biogas and a one-third reduction in the digestion time in comparison to the untreated biomass. There was no significant difference between the use of the material containing all particle sizes and the material with only the most abundant particle size (0.890 mm). The ultrasound system with maximum irradiation power of 132 W is not indicated for lignocellulosic pre-treatments as it does not promote changes in the structural composition of the corn stalk. At the end of this study, a promising alternative was obtained in order to make the carbohydrates present in the corn stalk more accessible for the anaerobic digestion and, as a consequence, to increase the biogas production.A necessidade de fontes energ?ticas renov?veis ? evidente nos dias de hoje, visto que os combust?veis derivados do petr?leo s?o fontes esgot?veis. Atualmente, a produ??o de biog?s est? associada ao tratamento de um dos grandes problemas da suinocultura no Brasil, o gerenciamento da elevada concentra??o de efluente gerado pelos sistemas de produ??o de animais confinados. Neste trabalho, primeiramente avaliou-se diferentes tipos de pr?-tratamentos sobre uma mat?ria prima lignocelul?sica, o caule de milho (Zea mays), utilizando metodologia de planejamento de experimentos e posteriormente investigou-se o potencial de produ??o de biog?s atrav?s da co-digest?o com dejeto su?no. O pr?-tratamento com H2SO4 teve uma remo??o significativa da fra??o de hemicelulose usando baixas concentra??es de ?cido (0,75% v.v-1). Por?m, por tamb?m aumentar a fra??o de lignina na biomassa, esta t?cnica n?o ? adequada para posterior produ??o de biog?s, pois acaba inibindo o processo de co-digest?o. J? o pr?-tratamento com H2O2 alcalino (pH 11,5) conseguiu um aumento da fra??o de celulose de 73,4% e uma redu??o de 71,6% no teor de lignina. Utilizando 12% (v.v-1) de H2O2, 58 ?C de temperatura do agitador orbital, agita??o de 130 rpm e concentra??o de s?lidos de 3% (3 g de massa seca em 100 mL de solu??o) por 58 min. Este pr?-tratamento ? recomendado para produ??o de biog?s, pois conseguiu-se aumentar o volume final de biog?s em 22%, bem como reduzir em um ter?o o tempo de digest?o, em compara??o com a biomassa n?o tratada. N?o houve diferen?a significativa entre a utiliza??o do material contendo todos os tamanhos de part?culas e o material com apenas o tamanho de part?cula mais abundante (0,890 mm). O sistema de ultrassom com pot?ncia m?xima de irradia??o de 132 W, n?o ? indicado para realiza??o de pr?-tratamentos, pois n?o promove altera??es na composi??o estrutural do caule de milho. Ao final deste estudo obteve-se uma alternativa promissora para que os carboidratos presentes nesta biomassa estivessem mais acess?veis para a digest?o anaer?bia e como consequ?ncia o aumento da produ??o de biog?s
