Da Sierra Maestra ? Revolu??o: o olhar do jornal Di?rio de Not?cias (RS) sobre Cuba (1957-1960)

This thesis is the result of a research carried out in the newspaper Di?rio de Not?cias (RS), a representative of the major press, about the news and articles about the Cuban Revolution published between 1957 and 1960. In this four-year time block we analyzed the reception of the Cuban revolutionary process and the image that this newspaper spread about Cuba in Brazil. We also considered the production of books and articles by intellectuals who dealt with the theme of the Cuban Revolution, the press, Cuba's relations with Brazil and Latin America, the influence exerted by the Cuban process in the Brazilian and international political struggle, and the revolutionary leaders, such as Fidel Castro and Ernesto "Che" Guevara, among other topics addressed throughout the years in which the journal highlighted this process. The objective of this research is to analyze the contents of the Di?rio de Not?cias newspaper about the Cuban Revolution, in order to know the representations and interpretations that this newspaper provided to the Brazilians, as well as the image that the newspaper traced of the Caribbean island and the controversies that were raised. In this sense, this study also seeks to identify the processes of construction of the images and affirmations referring to the Cuban Revolution, with the subsequent establishment of positions on the theme; to analyze the motivations of these positions and descriptions, to characterize the ideologies present in the newspaper's discourses, to understand the debates generated in the Brazilian soil about the episodes lived in Cuba and to interpret the possible repercussions of those events in Brazilian society and culture. Therefore, we analyze some methodological aspects combined with results of research in the press. More than making a comparative history, we seek a connective history that goes beyond causal and effect elements and that works with several worlds: the soviet socialist, the american capitalist, and the latin american. We make a brief history about the newspaper Di?rio de Not?cias and, at the end of the paper, we analyze the representations of the journal on different aspects of the revolutionary process, and how they contributed to the construction of the image of the revolution in Brazilian public opinion.Esta disserta??o ? resultado de uma pesquisa realizada no jornal Di?rio de Not?cias (RS), representante da grande imprensa, acerca das not?cias e artigos sobre a Revolu??o Cubana veiculados entre 1957 e 1960. Nesse bloco temporal de quatro anos analisamos a recep??o do processo revolucion?rio cubano e a imagem que este peri?dico difundiu sobre Cuba no Brasil. Tamb?m consideramos a produ??o de livros e artigos de intelectuais que trataram do tema da Revolu??o Cubana, da imprensa, das rela??es de Cuba com o Brasil e a Am?rica Latina, da influ?ncia exercida pelo processo cubano na luta pol?tica brasileira e internacional, e dos l?deres revolucion?rios, como Fidel Castro e Ernesto ?Che? Guevara, entre outros temas abordados ao longo dos anos em que o peri?dico destacou este processo. O objetivo deste trabalho ? analisar o conte?do do jornal Di?rio de Not?cias referente ? Revolu??o Cubana, a fim de conhecer as representa??es e interpreta??es que este peri?dico forneceu aos brasileiros, bem como a imagem que o jornal tra?ou da ilha caribenha e as pol?micas que foram suscitadas. Neste sentido, este estudo tamb?m busca identificar os processos de constru??o das imagens e afirma??es referentes ? Revolu??o Cubana, com o posterior estabelecimento de posicionamentos sobre o tema; analisar as motiva??es destes posicionamentos e descri??es, caracterizar as ideologias presentes nos discursos do jornal, compreender os debates gerados no solo brasileiro acerca dos epis?dios vividos em Cuba e interpretar as poss?veis repercuss?es daqueles acontecimentos na sociedade e cultura brasileiras. Portanto, analisamos alguns aspectos metodol?gicos combinados a resultados de pesquisas na imprensa. Mais do que fazer uma hist?ria comparativa, buscamos uma hist?ria conectiva, que v? al?m de elementos causais e de efeito e que trabalhe com v?rios mundos: o socialista sovi?tico, o capitalista norte-americano e o latino-americano. Realizamos um breve hist?rico a respeito do jornal Di?rio de Not?cias e, ao final do trabalho, analisamos as representa??es do peri?dico sobre diferentes aspectos do processo revolucion?rio, e como elas contribu?ram para a constru??o da imagem da revolu??o na opini?o p?blica brasileira
