Background: The reported effects of flavanol-rich foods such as cocoa, dark chocolate, and apples on blood pressure and endothelial function may be due to the monomeric flavanols [mainly (–)-epicatechin (EC)], the oligomeric flavanols [procyanidins (PCs)], or other components.
