NMR spectroscopy is an established, versatile, widely applicable analytical technique forming one of the cornerstone methods for metabolic profiling, metabonomics, metabolomics, and metabolic phenotyping applied to complex biofluid and tissue samples. From sample storage and preparation conditions through basic one-dimensional proton and two-dimensional proton only and proton-carbon correlated NMR techniques, this chapter moves on to consider the quest for ever more advanced NMR methods to improve data resolution, increase analyte detection limits, and robustly quantify components within complex biofluid and tissue matrices.
