The introduction of recycled and secondary aggregates to encourage adoption of a more sustainable route for construction industry is discussed. The largest stream of recyclable materials are those construction, demolition and excavation wastes which can be crushed and processed to create recycled aggregates. The aggregates are defined in two classes, namely, recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) and recycled aggregate (RA) where RCA can be regarded as a subdivision of RA. It has been shown that construction arisings can provide a valuable resource and may be used to generate sustainable construction, reduce waste disposal costs and minimise dependency on landfill.</p
