Tujuan utama dalam proses rekrutmen di sekolah adalah mendapatkan SDM atau tenaga kependidikan (guru) yang tepat bagi suatu jabatan tertentu sehingga orang tersebut mampu bekerja secara optimal dan dapat bertahan di sekolah untuk waktu yang lama. Pelaksanaan rekrutmen merupakan tugas yang sangat penting, krusial dan membutuhkan tanggung jawab yang besar. Hal ini karena kualitas sumber daya manusia yang akan digunakan sekolah sangat bergantung pada prosedur rekrutmen dan seleksi yang dilaksanakan.
