Tout comme dans d’autres régions du continent, le cuivre a été prisé tout au long du 2e millénaire AD dans différentes entités politiques de l’Ouest de l’Afrique centrale. Les sources de cuivre y sont cependant limitées et les gisements du bassin du Niari, situés dans le sud de la République du Congo, figurent parmi les plus importants à avoir été exploités anciennement.
