Some results about absorbing minerals in general have been deduced from a study of the optical properties of mawsonite, which was selected because of the exceptional behaviour of its reflectivity : the dispersion curves of its uniradial reflectivities, measured on any section, intersect in the middle of the visible spectrum for a wavelenght of about 550 nm, showing that this mineral was isotropic for that wavelength (R1 = R2), and that the sign of its bireflection was negative from 420 nm to 550 nm, positive after. The determination of the refractive indices and absorption coefficients have proved that, at the wavelength at which the mineral is isotropic as regards reflectivity, it is not isotropic as regards these indices and coefficients...
