Great progress in reflectance measurements has occurred in many countries during the fifteen years of the leadership of the Commission on Ore Microscopy (COM-IMA), the activity of which is presented. In particular, advances have been made in the design of microscope photometers and in the establishment of international standards of reflectance. In the present paper, an attempt is made to assess : 1) the results obtained in the establishment of Charts, Tables and Data File for the microscopic determination of ore minerals ; 2) the theoretical works concerned with the optical properties of absorbing crystals ; 3) the results obtained in the attempt to use these properties in geochemical and ore deposits studies. Developments in the U. S. S....
