Many community college honors programs have seen steep budget cuts in recent years, affecting the number of honors students that can be served at the 1,200 community colleges in the United States. Many excellent, longstanding honors programs at community colleges have recently struggled with enrollment and resources. NCHC-member colleges have often described their challenges in filling honors classes and their ongoing struggles with resourcing honors programming.
