On September 11-13, 1957, a Conference on Animal Diseases and Human Health was held in New York City under the joint auspices of the New York Academy of Sciences and the Public Health Service's Communicable Disease Center.The significance of these diseases was discussed from two viewpoints: the direct transfer of disease by parasites or by consumption of diseased meat and milk, and the reduction of food supplies caused by outbreaks of animal disease.Enzootic, epizootic, and zoonotic diseases were considered, along with means by which the diseases are transmitted.
