On the Syntactic and Semantic Properties of the Particle ���Ga/I��� and ���Reul/Eul���.

The purpose of this paper is to show the syntactic and semantic properties of the Korean particles ���Ga/I��� and ���Reul/Eul���. At first I divided these particles into two groups, the first of which attach directly to the NP(noun phrase) and the second of which attach to the non-NP. Then I investigated the environments and the conditions in which they are used. The subjective particle ���Ga/I��� has strong disposition to act as a case-marker, but the particle ���Ga/I��� and ���Reul/Eul���, that are in the scope of the VP(verb phrase), are related to the feature [��control] of the verb. The particle ���Reul/Eul��� when inserted into the verb is not related to any syntactic features. The particles which attach to non-NPs are emphasized more than those which attach directly to NPs. And the strength of that emphasis depends on the markedness or the unnaturalness of the sentence
