International audienceThis article analyses diverse modes of text representations in The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. Representations of texts permeate the narrative and take various shapes. They contribute to the setting of a particular context which, in its turn shapes the eponymous character and consequently also shape the narrative structure. "The importance of the character could be measured by the effects of their absence. Without the character, how could stories be told, summarised, judged, be talked about, be remembered?
