One of the most challenging health epidemics facing the 21st century is Diabetes Mellitus, characterized by destruction of the insulin-producing β-cells. Inflammation, in particular pro-inflammatory cytokines, plays a key role in initiation and progression of β-cell death. The goal of our research is to develop a novel approach to preserve and expand the pancreatic β-cell mass.
