Stove guard is a home safety device that is designed to prevent typical fire hazards in the kitchen by actively supervising the temperatures on and around a cooking hob. The stove guard is situated on top of the hob and is thus in an environment with occasional high temperatures and humidity. Consequently, to ensure the functionality and trustworthiness of the device for the whole designed lifetime, the problems that may occur in such an environment were recognised and studied in this thesis. Furthermore, plastics joining methods that could be utilised in a next generation stove guard were researched and chosen for, among the appropriate materials.
