ABBREVIATIONS ON INSTAGRAM WRITTEN VERBAL EXPRESSION USED BY NICKI MINAJ

Instagram as a social media to communicate and also to get information from another users widely. Mostly, the users of Instagram upload photos or videos and add interest verbal expression and some of it contain abbreviation to describe their feeling about the photos or videos. Abbreviation is a shortened form of a word or phrase. Abbreviation also used to simplify the communication, by using abbreviation; it does not need to take for a long time. This research aims to know about the abbreviation words found on Instagram written verbal expressions used by Nicki Minaj and also the types of the abbreviation words. The research used descriptive qualitative design with the researcher as the primary research instrument, documentation and interview was employed as the secondary research instruments. The researcher used Instagram of Nicki Minaj as a object, and the data were taken on September 2017. After data analysis, the researcher found 45 abbreviation words, which is 13 abbreviation words are repeated, and 32 abbreviation words are analyzed. Furthermore, the researcher classified those abbreviation words into types: initialism, acronym, shortening, contraction, clipped compound, and hypocoristic. However, the researcher only found 4 types from those 6 categories with 1 type that cannot be classified into those 6 types. Therefore, the researcher can conclude that the types of abbreviations in this research are categorized into 5: 1)initialism, 2)acronym, 3) shortening, 4) contraction, and 5) uncategorized. For initialism, there are 13 words,1 acronym word, 10 shortening words, 10 contraction words, and 11uncategorized words
