A STUDY ON TEACHING TECHNIQUES USED IN TEACHING SPEAKING FOR THE ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS AT SMAN 1 MOJOSARI

The aims of this study are to describe what techniques used by the teacher in teaching speaking, the implementation of the techniques used by the teacher in teaching speaking along with the problems faced by the teacher, also the way the teacher coped with the problems. In this study, the researcher used qualitative research design and presented the data in form of descriptive analysis. The subject of this study was the English teacher at SMAN 1 Mojosari. Moreover, the researcher obtained the data through observation and interview. The steps of data analysis were interpreting the result of observation and interview, classifying the techniques used by the teacher along with the implementation, classifying the problems faced by the teacher along with problem solving, and drawing a conclusion. The results showed that there were some techniques used by the teacher which were lecturing, storytelling, role play and discussion. While the teacher taught speaking, the teacher faced some problems. The problems were that many students did not like English, they had incorrect pronunciation, and the teacher got lack of time in teaching. Although the teacher had some problems, the teacher had her own ways to cope with those problems. First, the teacher always gave encouragement to the students who were less interested in English. Second, the teacher always reminded the students to pronounce English words correctly. Last, the teacher provided an additional task and homework. In accordance with the result of the study, the teacher should choose appropriate techniques in teaching speaking. The implementation of the appropriate technique would make the teaching learning activity more interesting and effective
