Mali: Analysis of the Tuareg Uprising (2012-2015)

El conflicto armado en Mali es un claro ejemplo de los cambios en la forma de hacer la guerra, donde se mezclan el alzamiento de las poblaciones tuareg, un golpe de Estado, y la aparición de grupos islamistas radicales. Una serie de factores coincidieron en aquel momento y que dieron inicio al conflicto armado en el norte de Mali. Este trabajo busca analizar las causas fundamentales de la rebelión nacionalista tuareg del año 2012, diferenciándolas de los mecanismos de movilización y de los factores que agudizaron la violencia. Así, se apreciará la incidencia de dos elementos: el patrón relacional de suma cero entre Gobierno de Mali y los líderes locales de las regiones del norte, y una crisis humanitaria de amplias proporciones.The armed conflict in Mali, besides being a clear example of the changes in warfare, merges together the rebellion of the Tuareg populations, a coup d'état, and the emergency of radical Islamist groups. A number of factors coincided in that moment and started the armed conflict in northern Mali. This paper aims to analyze the root causes of the Tuareg nationalist rebellion in 2012, differentiating them from the mechanisms of mobilization and the factors that aggravated the violence. Thus, the incidence of two elements will be appreciated: the zero-sum relational pattern between the central Government of Mali and the local leaders of the northern regions, and a humanitarian crisis of ample proportions
