In my thesis I intend to analyze and follow the way this sport gained its present day popularity, from the ancient times, through the refining of the game, to the recent years. I wish to give a detailed description about the significant events, persons and processes that influenced hockey’s development, by other worlds about the Canadian history and the Canadian people’s search for identity in general. Then I would like to examine the Canadian society and its different groups – namely women, Aboriginals, and Blacks – to reveal their experiences in the previously mentioned search for national identity.
