From the Policy of Language to theLanguage of Politics.Guarani Letters of the Transition from the Colony to the Independent Era

Este artículo presenta un corpus de documentos guaraníes del ámbito de las reducciones jesuíticas del Paraguay, en su mayoría escritos por líderes indígenas. Los documentos cubren el período 1768-1831, es decir, desde la fecha de la expulsión de los jesuitas hasta la disolución de la mayor parte de las reduccionesdurante la revolución. Los documentos transcritos en sus versiones guaraní y española remiten a un período fundamental de transición, permitiendo analizar el rol de los indígenas en el proceso revolucionario y las transformaciones de su lengua (su escritura) y los discursos políticos que utilizaban.This article presents a corpus of Guarani sources of the Jesuit reductions of Paraguay, most of them written by indigenous leaders. Documents cover the period 1768-1831, that is to say, from the date of the Jesuits´ expulsion to the moment of dissolution of the most part of the reductions during revolution. The transcribed documents in their Guarani and Spanish versions refer to a fundamental period of transition, allowing the analysis of the role played by the Indians in the revolutionary process and the tranformations of their language (their writing) and their political discourse.Fil: Couchonnal Cancio, Ana Inés.
