Heraldry and excesses: physical and symbolical violence against the noble in Castile during Early Modern Age

El artículo propone un análisis, desde la historia cultural y de la idea de nobleza, de las repercusiones que las violencias cometidas contra la heráldica nobiliaria supusieron en la Edad Moderna. Se parte del hecho de considerar que el blasón es un retrato de las cualidades del noble y una Gracia del soberano. Por lo tanto, todo ataque contra la heráldica sería un ataque contra el orden social. Se toman algunos ejemplos para reforzar este argumento.This article aims at analyzing the consequences of the violence committed against the nobility heraldry during Early Modern age through the perspectives of Cultural History and the concept of nobility. It assumes the fact that the coat of arms is regarded both as a portrait of the noble and act of mercy of the King. Therefore, all the offenses against the heraldry would be considered as an attack against the established social order.
