L'étude du Nord au Canada

Arctic and SubArtic Regions extend over 70% of Canada but they are inhabitated by only 400000 permanent residents. Nordology or the Science of the North is the study of latitudinal cold areas. It falls into two levels : one corresponds with specialization in any northern field (micro-nordology) ; the other follows a global approach in coping with the North (macro-nordology) ; between these levels are pluridisciplinary efforts of some range. Publications appear abundant in micro-nordology, that is not the case in macro-nordology and in regiology. Coordination and application of research remain under-developed. One would hope for a better circumpolar collaboration.Le nord canadien couvre environ 70% de la superficie du pays mais il n'est habité en permanence que par 400000 individus. Le terme de nordologie se définit comme l'étude totale des hautes latitudes. Au plan des sujets, on distingue une micro-nordologie consacrée aux connaissances des choses singulières et une macro-nordologie qui vise la compréhension intégrée des systèmes nordiques ; entre ces deux niveaux, apparaissent des études pluridisciplinaires de moyenne amplitude. Les recherches sont relativement abondantes en micro-nordologie mais sous-développées en macro-nordologie et en régiologie. La coordination et l'application sont également insuffisantes.
