Arctic and SubArtic Regions extend over 70% of Canada but they are inhabitated by only 400000 permanent residents. Nordology or the Science of the North is the study of latitudinal cold areas. It falls into two levels : one corresponds with specialization in any northern field (micro-nordology) ; the other follows a global approach in coping with the North (macro-nordology) ; between these levels are pluridisciplinary efforts of some range. Publications appear abundant in micro-nordology, that is not the case in macro-nordology and in regiology. Coordination and application of research remain under-developed.
