The old people's home in La Tronche, 1894-2005 These days hospitals are the subject of lively debate by architects and planners, so a better understanding of how an alms-house evolved over the last century may cast light on our present-day concerns. Grenoble built a hospital and old people's home towards the end of the century, but the part given over to pensioners and people suifering from contagious diseases was transferred to La Tronche in 1894. It rapidly acquired new buildings and in 1917 started taking fever victims and tuberculous patients, becoming a hospital and sanatorium. After 1950 it changed again to handle chronic complaints.
