Wave Field Synthesis (WFS) is a sound reproduction technique that postpones the limits set by conventional techniques. The ideal reproduction area can thus be extended to the entire listening room using loudspeaker arrays all around the listening room. These loudspeaker arrays act as windows on an outside acoustical world. WFS relies on an object-based description of a sound scene (content coding, set of sound sources interacting with an acoustical environment) and allows to synthesize virtual point sources (sound holograms). A listener wandering around in a WFS sound installation thus experiences natural localization variations due to the positioning of the virtual sound sources.
