Systematics of genus Leistus and criteria used in it are reviewed. The importance of mouthparts and median lobe is stressed and a new classification is propo¬ sed with 5 subgenera : Nebrileistus (Bânninger), Pogonophorus (Latreille), Sardoleistus n. sg., Evanoleistus (Jedlicka) and Leistus s. str., Oreobius, Chaetoleistus, Eurinophorus, Leistophorus, Euleistulus, Acroleistus, Leistidius, and Neoleistus are considered synonyms.La classification actuelle du genre Leistus et les différents caractères utilisés sont analysés.
