The Dollar and the Failure of the Growth Model Based on Information and Domestic Services The United States have put in place since the 1990's a bipolar model of productive specialization : development of information technologies and of services protected from the competition of emerging countries ; contraction of manufacturing. The crisis reveals the failure of this model : without a constant increase in private debt, it leads to slow growth, to trade deficits which are impossible to correct, hence, potentially, to a substantial weakening of the dollar.
