Les thermes de l'oppidum de Gaujac (Gard)

The thermae at Gaujac (Gard) were built during the beginning of the 1 st century A.D. within the undertaking of the reshaping of an oppidum without springs or wells. The necessity of providing them with a network of rainwater supplies, progressively established, explains the two successive states of their evolution. A third state, settled after a sudden ground subsidence, perhaps due to a sismic movement, during the beguinning of the IIIrd century A.D., concerns a small sanctuary dedicated to the goddess Fortuna used till the end of the IIIrd century A.D.Les thermes de Gaujac (Gard) ont été construits au début du premier siècle dans le cadre de la restructuration d'un oppidum privé de source et de puits. La nécessité de les doter d'un réseau d'alimentation par l'eau de pluie, établi progressivement, explique les deux états successifs de leur évolution. Un troisième état, post-thermal, mis en place à la suite d'un affaissement brutal du sol, peut-être d'origine sismique, au début du IIIe s., concerne un petit sanctuaire à la déesse Fortuna qui restera en activité jusqu'à la fin du IIIe s.Charmasson Jean.
