The floods of the Lower Rhône have been studied over a long period of time (1500-1994) and on a limited sector, essentially around Aries. This place offer a triple advantage: a very good stock of historical records, a recognised stability of the river bed, and a good continuity in the observation of the flood levels by local people and official services. The study of the annual, monthly and decennial distribution of this crues allows the correlation between the frequency of the river's frost and the frequency of the crues over 4 meters. The Little Ice Age (XVIth XIXth centuries) coincide with a frequency of the floods never reached in the twentieth century, with some very critical stages (Late sixteenth century, 1701- 1710, and 1811-1820). ...
