Analysing the dynamics of change within the cross-Channel region provides the central aim of the Franco-British collaborative Atlas/Cross-Channel Atlas Project. The Channel simultaneously divides and joins bordering areas which together make up this trans-frontier zone, which is uniquely maritime in character. The cross-Channel region, with its historic exchange links, is now a strong focus of European integration astride the Manchester-Milan axis. As yet little is understood of the inter- regional and trans- frontier processes operating within this new spatial logic. The Atlas Transmanche/Cross-Channel Atlas hopes to fill this gap.
