Atlas transmanche/Cross Channel atlas : une collaboration Franco-Britannique née à Caen et à Portsmouth

Analysing the dynamics of change within the cross-Channel region provides the central aim of the Franco-British collaborative Atlas/Cross-Channel Atlas Project. The Channel simultaneously divides and joins bordering areas which together make up this trans-frontier zone, which is uniquely maritime in character. The cross-Channel region, with its historic exchange links, is now a strong focus of European integration astride the Manchester-Milan axis. As yet little is understood of the inter- regional and trans- frontier processes operating within this new spatial logic. The Atlas Transmanche/Cross-Channel Atlas hopes to fill this gap. Inter-university cooperation has brought together not only French and British researchers and research teams, but also INSEE, planning departments and other public sector authorities on both sides of Channel. The first printed edition volume of the Atlas will shortly be published, and an electronic version on Internet will be available by the end of 1995.Analyser les dynamiques de la zone transmanche, tel est l'objectif de la coopération franco-britannique. Atlas TransManche / Cross Channel Atlas. La Manche sépare et unit tout à la fois les régions qui composent une zone transfrontalière particulière puisqu'elle est maritime. La zone transmanche, zone d'échanges ancienne est une zone d'intégration européenne accentuée, à l'orthogonale de la forte dorsale Manchester-Milan. On sait pourtant peu ce qui s'y passe dans une logique interrégionale et transfrontalière, c'est ce vide que l'Atlas TransManche/Cross Channel Atlas entend combler. Cette coopération universitaire associe des équipes de chercheurs français et anglais, mais également des institutions telles que V INSEE, le Planning, ou l'Equipement. Un atlas papier par fascicule est en cours d'édition, un atlas informatique sur Internet entre en service fin 1995Buléon Pascal.
