In Niamey, it is possible to appraise the number of malnutrition about 6 950. Nevertheless, health services of these urban community collected 4 500 malnourished children. In the pediatric service of the hospital, 33% of children died and 55% during the first moments of hospitalisation. At the same time, 37% of cured children will died during the 6 months after they leaved the hospital. These data incite to investigate the social representations of malnutrition. Our study shows that many dissonances exist between medical diagnosis and social interpretation of these disease: mothers attribute malnutrition not to a food deficit but to the fear of their child.
