The first excavations of the necropolis were published in 1973; the 73 new pre-Roman tombs (5th-2nd c. BC) since discovered on this site, situated on the eastern coast of Corsica, have produced 2200 objects which make up an ensemble which is punique in the Mediterranean region for its complexity and richness. These objects open up perspectives concerning the role played by Aleria in relation to Greece, Africa and the West, Etruria in particular.They also illustrate the degree of economic and ideological development on the island.
