Maastricht is a town in the extreme southern part of the Netherlands, near the Belgian border. During urban archaeological excavations in the past decade 29 potsherds in Samian Ware with rouletted decoration of Christian symbols were found. From all previous excavations in Maastricht only 4 similar sherds were known. Different from most other sites in Northern Gaule several sherds were still located in their original stratigraphical position. The Maastricht finds enable us to follow the evolution of this typical pottery during the 5th and 6th century A.D.
