The evolution of household expenses. The burden of housing and transportation - Between 1979 and 1985, sums earmarked for housing took top priority and the infatuation for automobiles remained unchanged. On the other hand, monies spent on food continued to drop and clothing expenditures maintained their decline. The sums devoted to entertainment and culture stagnated though until that time, they had risen steadily. Accentuated as an effect of direct taxation, the narrowing of the gap between the expenses of various social categories continued, but the distance between top executives and skilled workers remained the same.
