Since its foundation in 1873, but especially during the period immediately before and after the British occupation in 1882, the khedivial Law School played an important role in the social and political evolution of Egypt. This article examines diverse aspects of the problem of formal instruction in European law in Egypt. It investigates possible influences which the administrative organization and reform of the khedivial Law School may have had on young Egyptian lawyers of the generation of Mustafâ Kâmil and Sa'd Zaglûl. It attempts at the same time to illustrate the way in which Franco-English political rivalries before the Entente Cordiale (1904) affected the methods and objectives of European law studies in Egypt.Depuis sa fondation en 1...
