SUMMARY. — Claude- François Lallemand (Metz, 1790- Marseilles, 1854) studied medicine and surgery at Metz and at Paris before obtaining one of the two chairs of clinical surgery at the Faculty of Medicine of Montpellier (1819). He taught there until 1845. His very extensive works deal above all with physiological troubles caused by alterations in the encephalon but they contributed also to the development and the individualisation of what became urology after him. Although having received a Parisian education, Lallemand was perfectly able to integrate his work with the doctrines of Montpellier.
