Abstract : Studies of risk zoning adjacent to ravines on Reunion island, a reflexion. Official cartography of natural hasards has deeply evolved since 1984, following the introduction of so called :« plans d'exposition aux risques naturels » (PER). Using the example of urban areas in Reunion island, this article stresses the difficulties encountered when implementing a PER using quantitative approach.
