François Bizot The place of the communities of North Laos in the history of South-East Asian Buddhism This article treats the history of South-East Asian Buddhism with a view to making plain how it differs from the Singhalese tradition. It is particularly about the transmission of ordination among the communities of the North of the Indo-chinese peninsula. It emphasises a Buddhist tradition that is Indian by comparison with the Singhalisation that took place from the 15th century. This Singhalisation brought about a "Pali-isation" of the religious institutions, thus covering up beliefs and practices in local languages that probably derived from Mūlasarvāstivādin communities and that one finds still living today in the Buddhist traditions o...
