L'évolution de la fabrique lyonnaise de soieries / Change in silk manufacturing in the Lyon region

Until the 1970s silk manufacturing in Lyon was based on a domestic system. Production was sub-contracted to rural areas by entrepreneurs based in Lyon. This system was referred to as the 'fabrique'. Traditional production and organisational systems were destroyed by technological change, the sectoral crisis of the 1960s and thre world recession of 1974. The manufacture of traditional products for the clothing and soft furnishing industries wa re-established by independent producers. Two new areas of production have been developed, independent of the 'Fabrique' system, in the former strongholds of the rural weaving industry : 'volumetric and 'technical' fabrics based on glassfibre and composite materials. The Lyon region has a quasi-monopoly of such production in France.La soierie lyonnaise a reposé jusqu'à la décennie 70 sur la fabrication en sous-traitance à la campagne pour les donneurs d'ordres à Lyon, suivant le système de la fabrique. La mutation technologique, la crise sectorielle des années 60 et la crise mondiale de 1974 ont mis à mal la production et l'organisation traditionnelles. Les productions classiques pour l'habillement et l'ameublement se reconstituent autour des "usiniers" de province qui se rendent indépendants des fabricants lyonnais. Deux secteurs nouveaux se développent à l'écart de la Fabrique, dans les anciens fiefs du tissage en milieu rural : les tissus volumétriques et surtout les tissus techniques pour lesquels la région lyonnaise a un quasi- monopole en France.Houssel Arnaud, Houssel Jean-Pierre.
