The elections of June 7th 1970 in Italy, by Jean Besson and Geneviève Bibes The elections of June 7th 1970 in Italy are interesting on two accounts: firstly, after twenty-two years of hesitations, the regional councils provided for in the constitution are to be set up; secondly 35 million electors were given the opportunity to say their opinion on the multiple political and social changes which have occurred since 1968 (the split in the unified socialist party, trade union autonomy, reorganization of the labour movement and industrial relations after the major strikes of a turbulent autumn). The results show on the whole the great stability of the electorate and in no way modify the perspective of political alliances at regional level. None...
