This article presents the evolution of the french economy, quantified by the annual OFCE model (up to 1988) according to three alternative scenarios. The upturn recently observed in OECD countries can hardly be considered a return to expansion. The growth of GDP in OECD countries and that of world trade will be relatively slow, whatever the case considered. Activity in France will be largely determined by world growth and the objective of a balanced current account in the short term. Relative to that of main competitors, growth will be slow at first but should later be comparable and even slightly stronger should a world recession occur in the mid-1 980's.
