Galilée bricoleur "Galilée Bricoleur" is an analisys of Galileo's strategies for the establishment of a new socio-professional role, that of the mathematical natural philosopher. These strategies were rooted in his representation of himself and his discoveries as fitting the culture of the Medici court. I argue that the establishment of this new role for himself aimed also at the social and cognitive legitimation of mathematical physics and Copernicanism. The analysis focuses mainly on Galileo's court-based patronage tactics and on his representation of his 1610 discovery of the satellites of Jupiter as the "Medicean Stars", that is, not primarily as scientific discoveries but as emblems of the Medici dynasty and as court spectacles.Galilée...
