The application of water mist in the air upstream of the air-cooled condensers can reduce the energy consumption of refrigeration. The advantage of water mist is the lowering of air temperature obtained by evaporation of the spray. The optimization of this method provides an efficiency approaching that of evaporative systems while eliminating the risk of development and transport of bacteria such as legionella. The problem is addressed here in two ways: the first theoretical and numerical (using the code MIRABELLES and development of a model heat exchange air-droplet/condenser) and the second experiment (establishment of a pilot and a heat pump).
