The author is a Romanian journalist and political refugee who has been living in France since 1987. These extracts from his journal can be read as the account of his disenchantment although their interest lies less in their content of subjective impressions than in the wish to involve communication specialists in the experience of an event which is still taking place. In a country where the expression of ideas and questions has been controlled in minute detail for forty years, the journal becomes the locus of boldness and the scrapheap for failures.
