Conclusion. After much reflexion on the historical interpretation of the Arles-Rhône 3 wreck, it seems clear that this craft should be seen within the perspective of a great architectural diversity. While part of the Rhône-Saône tradition, the barge is merely the representative of an “architectural family” particular to the Lower Rhône and to the “Arles zone of transport geography”, and it sits next to other families that belong to upstream zones of transport geography, like the family constituted by the barge wrecks of the Parc Saint-Georges.
