In the European Pilgrimage year 2000 the Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim and the burial site of Saint Olav, the martyr king of Norway, was selected as a special pilgrimage goal of Europe. This article gives an overview of the Saint Olav medieval iconography in art and liturgy around the Scandinavian countries. The medieval liturgy of Saint Olav, the Olav Mass and the legendary motifs of the saint constitute a visual sermon of the church. This article is based on the disstertation of Anne Lidén. 1999.
